Camisoles, also known as camis in some parts of the world, are sleeveless, loose-fitted undergarments designed for women. These are typically waist length garments and come in different fabrics like silk, cotton, nylon and polyester.
Camisoles can be worn as outerwear or may simply be used as an undergarment. The idea of wearing camisoles as an outerwear became popular in the 1990s and became a fashion trend at that time and even now. Women pair up camisoles with jeans, shorts or skirts and look very classy and trendy. The original idea of camisoles, however, was to be worn as an undergarment for tops that were see through or to provide a little extra weight for the bust area.
At this point, most of you would be wondering that camisoles are nothing, but simple slips. However, that’s not entirely correct. True, that slips and camisoles can be worn underneath, and both serve the same purpose in that scenario; to help the dress hang smoothly and also, to prevent skin chafing from coarse fabrics like wool. Slips and camisoles also keep the body warm and protect the dresses from perspiration. However, slips; either the half slips (bottom only) or the full slips (one piece; top and bottom), can only be worn underneath dresses or skirts. Camisoles, on the other hand, are top only garments which can either be worn alone or under a top or with button front shirts.
Camisoles come with thin, spaghetti straps and can be worn with or without a bra. Because of such thin straps, most camisoles are worn without a bra which makes many people uncomfortable because simple camisoles provide little to no support for the bust. However, some camisoles come with built in bras as well.
Camisoles come with different built in bras like built in bra cups, built-in padded bra, built in underwire bra and lace camisole with built in bra. These camisoles not only look gorgeous and elegant but can be worn either alone or with a nice jacket and pair of jeans. These not only look good but also give great comfort throughout the day. In fact, recently I have read that camis for breast cancer patients was designed specifically for their sensitive skin. The built in bra gives your upper body a beautiful shape and emphasise your curves, making your overall attire very graceful. Camisole bra tops are the current rage and come in a variety of cup sizes and padding options to suit every woman’s needs and to cater for all body shapes and sizes. Women who have smaller, perky breasts can go for thick padding and big breasted women can go for soft padding.

Women with a size C or D or higher than this may find the built-in bra camisoles somewhat challenging. The reason is, the bust size does not always correspond with the body size or with the waist size. It can be a little difficult to find camisoles that fit the overall body shape and size, but once you do, you are going to love these garments! The perfect fitting camisole with a built – in bra also takes away the burden of wearing layers of clothing underneath it. This trick is very helpful for women with bigger bra sizes because the layers of clothing end up making them look heavier than usual. With the right camisole, they can skip those extra layers of clothing and just wear the camisole bra or camisole bra top with a jacket. Another thing to keep in mind is that camisole bra tops offer very little support which many women might find something to struggle with. Women with a heavy bust line should opt for camisoles that come with built-in underwire bra. The underwire bra gives excellent support for heavy, big breasts. If you need cleavage enhancement while wearing camisoles, you can use push ups with camisole bras.
Lace camisoles with built in bra come with very beautiful lace fabric at the neckline. Lace camisoles usually come in silk fabric, but can be found in cotton and nylon as well. When worn, the lace neckline looks very elegant and if worn as a top, under a jacket, gives a very layered look which is suitable for office wear. You can also pair up these camisoles with some cool pyjamas or shorts and you are all good to go with the trendy casual look.
Plain ones either with or without built-in bras in them can easily be converted into lace camisoles by simply making use of lace inserts. Lace inserts come in different shapes and designs and can be easily attached to your plain camisoles. It doesn’t even matter if the camisole has a built in bra or not, those lace inserts will work either way. Lace inserts can be either permanently stitched to your bra (if you’re not already wearing a camisole with a built-in bra) or to your camisole. If you don’t want such a permanent effect, you can simply just tie or fix the inserts using Velcro and you can make your camisoles an instant outerwear in no time. It is never out of fashion to have camis. Even you will hear this by many fashion bloggers that these are must in your wardrobe.
If you want to go to a formal event or a special occasion, you can find party wear camisoles laced up with embellishments and beads. These camisoles are specially made for such occasions, and their bras are of softer and shinier material like silk and satin. Some camisoles have sequin work done on them while others come with beadwork and crystal inlays. You can easily find such camisoles in your local clothing stores, or you can shop online. You would have tons of different colours, sizes and designs to choose from. Choose whichever camisole looks the most comfortable to you and go, rock that next event!
